On our response to griefing
We have been seeing griefing in some rooms. To address it firmly, we've started with the following updates.
- Password-protected rooms
- A room-creation option to allow or block video additions by guests
- An NG-word filter for video titles, set by room creators
- A kick tool for room creators to remove users
Here is what each one does.
1. Password-protected rooms
You can now set a password when creating a room. Beyond griefing, it's also perfect for a private "mokumoku" co-working session with friends.
2. Choose whether guests can add videos
When creating a room, you can now choose whether guests are allowed to add videos. Turn this on and guest users can no longer add anything to the video queue.
(Combined with #4 “kicking users,” this makes it harder for griefing to continue.)
3. NG words for video titles
Room creators can now register NG words (for video titles) via the 🚫 button in the top-right of the screen. Any video whose title contains a registered word can no longer be added to the queue.
4. Kicking users as a room creator
Room creators can also register banned users via the same 🚫 button. The targeted user is kicked from the room and can no longer re-enter.
(Combined with #2 “blocking guest video additions,” this makes it harder for griefing to continue.)
Also: skip-vote adjustment
A smaller change: skipping a video now requires a true majority (more than 50%) of votes. So in a two-person room, for example, skipping a video now needs both people — the whole room — to agree.
Finally
We want MokuMoku.town to be a place that as many good-faith users as possible can enjoy with peace of mind.
Dealing with griefing will likely be a cat-and-mouse game, but we'll respond firmly and keep improving through continuous updates.
